Are you flying to us to pick up, or Flying home after dropping off?
Its very common for most of our clients to at some point jump on a plane when working with us. Either after dropping their van off with us, or when flying back to pick it up, often times both ways! There are some things to keep in mind, and we will break down the various options for you below.
To/From San Jose Del Cabo Airport:
San Jose Del Cabo International Airport (SJD) is the large international airport here in Baja Sur. From here you can get flights to just about anywhere, even directly to Europe! SJD is this way, because the Mexican government has built out Cabo to be an international tourist destination. SJD is a 2.5 hour taxi ride from our shop in La Paz. So the logical next question would be, do you have someone you recommend, and what are prices? We do work with a great local taxi driver whom we can set you up with. We have worked with her for years, and trust her and her driving. Shes also very punctual. The car is a Toyota Corrolla, so on the smaller side if you have a large group or tons of luggage. The current price for her service one way to SJD from La Paz (or visa versa) is $2200 Pesos (Current as of Aug 24). Please keep in mind that this fee may change without notice as its not set by us. 100% of the cost of the taxi ride goes to the driver. We are only involved insofar as we know and recommend her. There are other taxi options, including lots at the airport upon landing, but we can almost guarantee you are going to pay a lot more for those! Trust us, we have no skin in the game here other than to make sure our clients arrive safely and affordably. Don't over think this, grab the taxi we recommend.
To book the taxi with our driver we will require the following:
1. Airline, flight number, day of arrival and time of arrival.
2. Where you will be going if you are coming from the airport (either directly to us in La Paz, to your hotel in La Paz, or somewhere else)
3. A photo of you and your passengers so that she can identify you at pickup.
To keep things simple, we will coordinate for you. Though if you wish we can provide you her number and you may make arrangements on your own (Spanish only).
Another option to get to SJD include on the budget end a bus from the Malecon in La Paz. This is somewhere in the $40 USD range per person. You can find more information about that here...ecobajatours.com/
Finally, you can consider renting a car from La Paz or the Airport. I would caution against this option. Car rentals in Mexico are much more scammy feeling in Mexico than in the U.S. Often you will be quoted online a very tempting price (say $20usd per day), and you'll think WOW! thats so cheap, why would I pay over $100 for a taxi? That Shane guy doesnt know what hes talking about! Well amigos that $20 per day that you thought was a deal will turn into over $100 per day pretty quickly, but only once they have you at the counter. Its frustrating, its not fun, and its not going to save you money. If you go into it knowing this will be the case, fine. But don't be lured into thinking this will be the cheap route, its not. Heres some more information and tips on this, if its the route you want to go... www.mexicoinsider.mx/renting-a-car-in-mexico/
To/From La Paz Airport (LAP)
If you can get a flight to La Paz Airport, this is the best option. Its about 15 minutes away from our shop and central La Paz. At present (Aug 2024) there are no direct flights from the US to LAP. What a lot of our Southern California Residents will do is to drive to the Cross Border Express on the San Diego/Tijuana border, and then take a flight directly from Tijuana to La Paz. This is fast, and cheap! And you dont need to deal with a cumbersome border crossing, its all done inside a nice terminal and walkway. You can read more about this here... www.crossborderxpress.com/en/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-5y1BhC-ARIsAAM_oKky6uUdaV-HHESxZUR3WcNuozbmncEqCrf8-_nCxKug4S47FTO3JlIaAtxFEALw_wcB
As of November 2024, Alaska airline is set to start direct flights to La Paz through LAX. This will be a great option for many people. thepointsguy.com/news/alaska-airlines-la-paz-monterrey-mexico-routes/
There are affordable taxis available right from the La Paz Airport upon landing.
