Cant make the drive?
While we highly recommend folks drive to and from La Paz with their vans, we understand that sometimes this just isnt feasible. Cant make the drive but still want to get your vehicle restored with us? No problem.
We have a trusted partner and friend in San Diego, a true old school VW guy, who lives at a marina close to the San Diego Airport. For only $250 he can receive your Van either directly from you if you are driving to San Diego, or from a truck transport if you have shipped from home. He will then drive it across the border and load it on a truck in Tijuana directly to us in La Paz. No need to ever step foot in Mexico.
In Tijuana we work with a local transportation company that will ship your vehicle in an enclosed trailer for 20,000 pesos to La Paz from Tijuana, and 20,000 pesos from La Paz back to Tijuana. Their Tijuana location is just a stones throw from the Otay Mesa border crossing, meaning you can drop your van off, our partner can drop your van off for you (see above) or pick it up, super easily. Whats the catch? Just one. Its important we advise you that the transport company is a completely separate company than ourselves, and we have no control over timeframes, or any damage to your vehicle during transport. Has this happened? Yes, they've broken an antenna or two, and theres been scratches on a couple occasions. This is standard fare for any shipping company, both in Mexico and the United States. Generally though, we've found this to be a great option for folks and more often than not it all works out just fine. Transport time is anywhere from a few days to a week or more, really just depends on their schedule. Because we have the relationship with them, its best for us to handle the logistics for you, although we are equally happy to provide you with their contact information for you to make arrangements yourself. We do not receive any compensation for the transport of your vehicle.
Please note: While we are happy to have you ship your van in both directions, we do require you to view and sign off on your vehicle at completion before we ship it off. This is super important as this is your opportunity to bring anything you are not pleased with to our attention and have it fixed right away. Though we warranty our work, we need the vehicle here in La Paz with us to perform any warranty service. Everything we do is to do our absolute best to ensure that you have a great experience.

Heres a brief Bio on Tom Summers our San Diego Partner
Old, or not so old, I love all VW buses and vans. I especially like to see them on the road and continuing to deliver fun long after what some would consider their prime. And I love adventuring in them. As a retired Chief Engineer of ships and tugboats, I’ve spent a lifetime on or near the waters of the West Coast from Alaska to Chile. For over twenty years I’ve made an annual run down and back up the peninsula of Baja California. I speak fluent Spanish, and consider the San Diego-Tijuana-Ensenada area my home turf. I now live on my boat on Harbor Island near the San Diego Lindbergh Field International Airport.
