Care Tips

Vehicle Paint Care Instructions
Proper care of your vehicle’s paint after it has been painted is essential to maintain its appearance and protect your investment. Follow these instructions from LiveTheVanLife Restorations to ensure the longevity and quality of your vehicle’s paint finish.
Initial Curing Period (First 30 Days)
  1. Avoid Washing: Do not wash the vehicle for at least 30 days after painting to allow the paint to fully cure. This helps prevent damage to the fresh paint surface.
  2. Protect from Elements: Keep the vehicle out of direct sunlight, rain, or extreme weather conditions as much as possible during the curing period to avoid spotting or uneven curing.
  3. No Waxing or Polishing: Refrain from applying wax, sealants, or polish during the first 30 days, as these can interfere with the curing process.
  4. Avoid Abrasive Contact: Do not allow objects (e.g., brushes, cloths, or tree branches) to come into contact with the paint, as it is still soft and prone to scratching.
Regular Maintenance (After 30 Days)
  1. Washing:
    • Wash the vehicle regularly (every 1-2 weeks) to remove dirt, dust, and contaminants.
    • Use a pH-neutral car shampoo and a clean microfiber wash mitt or soft sponge to avoid scratching the paint.
    • Rinse the vehicle thoroughly with water before washing to remove loose debris.
    • Use the two-bucket method (one bucket for soapy water, one for rinsing the mitt) to minimize swirl marks.
    • Dry the vehicle with clean microfiber towels or a blower to prevent water spots.
  1. Waxing:
    • Apply a high-quality carnauba wax or synthetic sealant every 3-6 months to protect the paint and enhance its shine.
    • Use a foam applicator pad and apply in a thin, even layer, following the product’s instructions.
    • Buff off the wax with a clean microfiber towel for a smooth finish.
  1. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use household cleaners, dish soap, or abrasive compounds, as these can strip protective coatings and damage the paint.
  2. Protect from Environmental Damage:
    • Park in a garage or shaded area to minimize exposure to UV rays, bird droppings, tree sap, and other contaminants.
    • Rinse off bird droppings, insect residue, or tree sap immediately with water to prevent etching into the paint.
    • In coastal areas like La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, rinse off salt spray frequently to avoid corrosion or paint damage.
Additional Tips
  1. Use Proper Tools: Always use microfiber towels, mitts, or soft brushes designed for automotive use to avoid scratches.
  2. Avoid Automated Car Washes: These can cause swirl marks or scratches due to harsh brushes or chemicals. Opt for hand washing whenever possible.
  3. Inspect Regularly: Check your vehicle’s paint for signs of damage, such as chips or scratches, and address them promptly to prevent further deterioration.
  4. Professional Maintenance: Consider periodic professional detailing to maintain the paint’s condition and address any minor imperfections.
